Tue 20 Aug: Happiness is not a Checklist

It’s a state of mind!

a Talk with Meditation – Everyone Welcome

at our Chorlton Centre 7.30 – 8.45pm

with Kadampa Teacher Jeff

In today’s world we are sold the idea that happiness comes with a lifestyle checklist. Tick all the boxes and we will be truly happy, for a while, so it’s said. But eventually we will find our bucket list has a hole in it. Maybe we can’t even afford one.

Happiness is a state of mind. So the real causes of happiness must be found in our mind.

Discover what this means and how to begin creating more stable, lasting happiness for yourself.

“Happiness and suffering are states of mind, and so their main causes are not to be found outside the mind. If we want to be truly happy and free from suffering, we must learn how to control our mind.”

Geshe Kelsang Gyatso. How to Transform Your Life

We have happiness sections in bookshops, happiness consultants at work, happiness professors in colleges and endless journalists and influencers trying to make us happy. That’s great! It really is. Except if we are not careful we can think happiness only comes in a lifestyle checklist.

If we understand the connection between mental peace and happiness, then we start to experience a special kind of happiness – with our checklist or without it, the happiness that comes with mental freedom.
