Training the Mind ~ guidelines for a happy life

In Guide to the Bodhisattvas Way of Life, Shantideva says:

“Where is there enough leather to
cover the surface of the Earth?
But just having leather on the soles of one’s feet
is the same as covering the whole Earth.
In the same way, it is not possible to control
all external events; But, if I simply control my mind,
what need is there to control other things?”

Through learning to develop mindfulness, alertness and conscientiousness in our daily life we can begin to recognise the negative mental habits that destroy our mental peace and cause us to act in ways contradictory to our true nature.  The 7th Century Buddhist Master, Shantideva, presents clear and profound meditations for our daily life that will lead us to experience happiness and peace.
